Improving air quality in schools
Poorly ventilated classrooms can cause drowsiness, drops in concentration levels and can spread bacteria and pollutants in the air, which include COVID. Often, schools, colleges, universities and places of education can suffer from poor ventilation due to high windows, or lack of access to opening windows.
From September 2021 the government is aiming to allocate over 300,000 carbon dioxide (CO2) monitors to state schools in a bid to improve air quality and ventilation. Improving ventilation will allow children and teachers to continue operating in a safer environment throughout the year.
Actuators and ventilation
Monitoring the levels of CO2 in the air is only one part of the issue, as schools then need the opportunity to do something about it. Window actuators are one way to quickly and easily allow fresh air to come into a room and improve oxygen levels.
Whether your building requires manual, electronic or a combination of different opening systems can be assessed on a site visit. If electronic actuators are installed, this system can be overridden at any time to improve the temperature and ventilation. A timer can be added to the window system to open out of school hours and allow night purging. The closing force applied by actuators means that, from a security perspective, entry into the building is not possible. A pre-configured system will avoid draughts & excessive heating consumption in the winter.
